Hello Everyone,

I removed the follow items:

Upper and lower units
Transom ring and boot
All ground wires
Steering cable
All nuts and washers connecting intermediate housing to bell housing

I cannot separate the intermediate housing from the bell housing.
I tried prying but I do not want to damage either housing

Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks,

Usual suspect is the splines of the shaft are rusted in the coupler. Search "intermediate housing" on this forum and you'll have lots of light reading.

Hello Boobie and 02batsea,
Over the weekend I removed the 3 intermediate shaft bolts, using a slide hammer shaft and gear came out undamaged.

Triple checked and verified that all bolts and components were removed from housing.

Attached large slide hammer to housing and after several attempts the housing was unseized from dowel pins and gasket surface. No damage to housing luckily.Stern Rot (10).JPGStern Rot (8).JPG

To the next issue I need to restore my transom as you can see the excessive rot.

1 Do I need to pull the engine?
2 How do I repair the hull if the hull rails under the trans mounts are rotted?

All advice is greatly welcomed.

Thanks,

Short Circuit
