omc 120 timeing quistions

hey im new to this site just got my boat and starting to learn quick quistion
when i bought the boat it had no plug wire and didnt spark so i replaced coil points wires cap and rotor
put the plug wires on 1342 order got spark at all plugs tried to start but just backfires through the carb and will not start anyone know how i can start my timeing from scratch and get it right the first time
 
Possible the timing is off by 1
Bring the timing mark up to TDC and make sure the #1 piston is up at TDC.(top dead center)
Then check where the rotor is hitting. That should be #1 piston on the distributer.

Fill out the profile and maybe your close to someone who can help.
 
pulled the cap off again and set the engine to tdc once pointed to number 4 wire so i rotated crank 360 degres and distributer was pointing dead on 2 with timing mark at 0 from what i read should it not be pointing at 1 am i missing somthing herre
