Went out today with my nephew, engine ran fine for about 30 mins, then at full throttle started to cut out, drop throttle a little bit ran fine again. Throttled up again started to cut out, primer bulb hard but after squeezing ran fine till we got back to dock. Checked filter on pump, some particles and black stringy substance. I'm thinking fuel pump since I have no clue how old it is. Model #B100l-1700771. My question is are these pumps still available or should I rebuild it. Have found a new one on line for 53bucks, does this sound right thanks for any replies, THE GUPPY

BOY! It kinda looks like it's not available and the parts to rebuild it aren't either. See item #6....diaphragm...in the link below.

IF the one online is legit and looks like it will fit, it MIGHT be the way to go. I'm just not sure. This stuff is so rare that the low price looks a bit suspicious to me. If I had one, I would charge more for it...actually I wouldn't sell it....knowing that I will probably need one in the near future. But, then again, you may have just got lucky and found what you need.

Good luck.

What is the difference between a bf100 and BF100LA?

I don't know. That B100LA was the closest thing I could find. The "L" is for long shaft and the "A" is for AMERICA...as far as I know. At least that's how the current system is described.
But, you can make up a whole new WORLD outta what I don't know too.

So what's the difference between bf100 and a 2000 b8a? It uses the same head, cam, fuel pump push rod and valve cover. Oil pump filter, screen, all these numbers match. Fuel pump still available along with just about everything else. It make sense if you have a part already, use it. No retooling reguired.Any thoughts?

Yeah, I think we've looked at that here before and it's even been suggested that a couple of guys try doing a "retro-fit" of the 8 fuel pump to the old BF 75 and 100 outboards. But, they ARE different and there may be some mounting problems. I have been waiting for someone to give it a try and let us know if it works but, so far, nada.

I suspect that the pump you found for sale on line may be one for an 8. And, WHO KNOWS? It might bolt up and work just fine. Here's the two links for comparison...

Your serial number indicates that the model number is a BF100F. 1985

I think you will be pleased to know that the fuel pump is also used on some of the early BF8A models....19700-935-024 The fuel pump and the diaphragm are both still available.

So Mike,
Where did I fall down on this? Is it that his "F" designation makes it a straight across swap or??? The depictions of the old "100" pumps and the 8A ones LOOK so different. I could sure use the info since I still have a "few" old ones in pieces I want to get running some day.

You did not fall down. The serial numbers and model numbers are not consistent for these motors. If the serial number is B75 L 1234567 The model is this case is BF75F. I know....crazy.

Honda has some new stuff on their website that can help determining the model number as well as look up parts, prices and availability. I do not know if it is linked to the real time availability, that I checked for the fuel pump that I told you was available (although limited quantities).

http://peparts.honda.com/marine?aribrand=HONMAR

It gives you the choice of marine engine or outboard engine. Outboard Engines are motors up to and including 20 HP. The Marine Eengines are anything larger.

As you can see, as you scroll down the column each serial number range has a different model number. Once you select the engine that you want, it takes you to the parts and availability.

Now, to see if you part number is on other models..... Boats.net will tell you this if you go far enough. You guys may know this...but this is for all who do not....

Find your part like the fuel pump for the BF100F

http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard Engine/0/BF100F LA/FUEL PUMP/parts.html

When you find the part (our part is #8)...click on the part number and it will take you to another pricing page where you can also order the part.....but it you scroll down the page, it lists all of the other models and years that that exact part is used on.

Hope wasn't too much of something you guys probably already know.

Mike

Thank you! Really appreciate the help and info, don't want to let this little guy die because of a fuel pump, runs really good. Will look into ordering parts tomorrow. Found a web site freedomcycles, sells Honda parts, according to them the pump will work on the BF75 also, lucky me i have one also.

Thanks MIKE! That is some AWESOME info and insight on how to get to this stuff. I, along with everyone else that might stumble on to this post, really appreciate it!
