1973 318 dist

trying to help a friend replaceing dist it had points a long time ago he replaced with a brakerless dist years ago inside of dist is rusting away so he got another dist accel 59301they said would work no spark the old dist the ground wire from the pickup is grounded to dist housing grounding the dist and spining dist good spark.new dist the ground wire is not grounded to dist and doing the same test no spark.i have done a lot of dist work i have been in the trade 55years if that wire is not grounded i dont see how it can work?the preformance shop said it will work i wondering if this dist needs a modual too? i am thinking this wont work .i will try to call tech support tomorow i thought somebody may have run in to this thanks

up date hooked up old dist this am plenty of spark new or not this dist wont work hes talking back and we will go from there thanks

up date took dist back they gave him another dist and module hooked it plenty of spark runs great the mysteries o of boating
