M30a4 ???

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Tohatsu 30 Hp 2 stroke and the tag says it was mfg in 2007, but all online parts houses list 2001 as the last year for a 30 hp 2 stroke. Also, Ive read that the only difference between the 25 and 30 hp models was a carb restrictor and timing change so why the difference in max operating rpms (6000 for the 25 and 5850 for the 30)?

Year of manufacture is irrelevant when servicing a Tohatsu OB. In North America, the 30A4 was obsoleted by the 4-strokes around 2002; In other markets, that is a current model. Yes, the 25 and 30 share the same block, but the 25 had a carb restrictor and was timed later. The change in timing curve contributes to the WOT RPM spec.
