help identifying boat/motor

been told its a 78 seaswirl. has a motor badged as a omc 3.8l. went to look for parts and it gave me a half dozen engine combinations by hp. the tag gives me a model #382stmrcng j 751546 and another for sterndrive 983159 j309727. don't know much about boats. need a manual, to find out why theres a lil oil in the water, what to do to start it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
your engine is a 1982 and for it,
382STMRCNG is all you need

The problem here at marineengine, it seems the G needs to be incorrectly changed to a C to get to the parts breakdown:
CNC and CNG are actually both 1982

and the 3.8 you have is 170HP with it's 2 Barrel carb
the 4 barrel version is 185 HP

It is a Chevrolet 90 degree V6, 229 cubic inch displacement.
