Mercury 1150 spark plug question

Bought a used boat with Mercury Model 1150 motor. Seems to run real rich so thought I'd do a tune up. The literature says to use L76V spark pugs. Label on side of motor says "Equipped with Perma Gap plugs". Motor looks very clean and plugs look new but they are J4C. Just wanted to confirm that they should be L76V.
 
The fuel was fresh and mixed 50:1. The plugs were wet when I took them out. I changed to the L76V's but I'll clean up the J4C's and keep them around just in case. Next step is checking out the carbs - the ones on the motor are the "Type A" version without the filter on the top, which is sort of confusing in the Seloc manual. Not sure where to get a model number in case I want to order a rebuild kit or jets.
