I purchased a used 16' Stur-dee boat earlier this summer. It came with a 25HP 1998 Evinrude. I quickly noticed that there was a vibration type sound when increasing speeds. Sometimes I can go at mid speed and it will not start right away, other times it starts right away. It never happens at idle or reverse.
A boat mechanic I know told be it was cavitation and suggested i drop the motor lower on the transom as it had been risen by the prior owner for increased speed.
I dropped the motor all the way down but still have the same issue.
I have also tried the following:
tried different angles with the motor
I changed out an older beat up prop with a new prop
I also installed a new hydrofoil stability plate
Nothing has worked. Sometimes I can go out at a good speed but then it takes me forever to get in because I can only go at a minimal speed.
I uploaded a video on Youtube the vibration sound begins at around the 9 sec mark and then gets worse.
