'88 OMC Cobra engine replacement

So about 4 years ago I bought a Bayliner Capri with a GM OMC Cobra 305 motor and at the time it ran pretty good. Two years ago, when I was winterizing it, I missed a brass plug and the block cracked. SO, I'm looking to finally get around to replacing the engine with a 350. But, I'm on a bit of a budget. I guess I'm looking for any suggestions on what I should replace it with and where I should buy it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

look on you local craigslist or kijiji for an 88 to mid 90's or so 305 or 350 truck motor that can be heard running, and compression tested. Swap the core plugs to brass and swap it in.
Avoid pre-1987 as they will ad expense with a different crankshaft bolt pattern that will require a different coupler and flywheel.

If you're in fresh water only I wouldn't bother with changing to brass core plugs. Salt or brackish definitely.
