I have 1998 50hp 4 stroke mercury 4cyl big foot outboard and it runs good from about 3500rpms to wide open. When you bring the throttle back to idle it sounds like its running on 2 cylinders. The carbs have cleaned. I have not heard any vacuum leaks. What else do I need look for too make it idle better. Thanks for the help on this.
 
I recently found out I had a bad stator. I have a 175 efi black max. My boat had no hole shot whay so ever but once it got on top it ran out fine. It may be faulty on the low output side. No spark no combustion no power
