Replace or rebuild Model 270 5.7??

Hello,

I have a 1988 Model 270/5.7L motor that has low compression in a few cylinders. The motor had a new head gasket and heads shaved/rebuilt approx 7 yrs ago. Unknown hours since then, but at least 5000 miles (nautical miles/GPS). The block is a rebuild from "Recon/Philly"). It does use a bit of oil (1 qt/400 miles??).

Compression is as follows;

1/170 lbs
3/135 lbs
5/170 lbs
7/165 lbs

2/170 lbs
4/70 lbs
6/145 lbs
8/135 lbs

My question is, replace with long block or redo the heads/gasket again?

Thx,

Timmy

Timmy, if this engine has been raw water cooled its entire life, I would not consider an overhaul.
You're only a few hundred dollars (if that) away from a good automotive core that's seen ethylene glycol coolant its entire life!
But there's a bit more to this!

As in "Closed Cooling System"?
If so, it will or should qualify for an overhaul. Just steer clear of the GM full dished piston!
