1971 Evinrude Outboard 50 HP

Hi.

I have a 1971 Evinrude 50 HP outboard motor (2 stroke) which I got with a boat off Craigslist. I have some questions about mixing my fuel.

The previous owner indicated he shot for a 48:1 fuel to oil ratio, and used premium unleaded, as opposed to regular. I've also been advised from others that it would be a good idea to get some sort of lubrication in the fuel mixture since the fuel back then had lead as a form of lubrication and we're now using unleaded fuel. A marine shop I called recommended Sea-Foam.

So I go for 48:1 fuel/oil with premium fuel, I add Sea-Foam, and I add a small amount of Sta-Bil (again, at the previous owner's recommendations).

Do I need to be using premium fuel? Is it inadvisable to do so, since it will burn hotter? Is the Sea-Foam an appropriate substitute for lead in the fuel? Any other recommendations? I know it's an old motor, but I'd like it to last a few years until I can afford a 4-stroke. :)

Thanks!
