I have a '78 Evinrude 85 (85899C). The Power Trim will go down, but it will not go up. Solenoid issue?

That model uses a 3 wire electric motor. Blue wire = UP - - - Green wire = DOWN - - - Black wire = Ground.

A solenoid is used for the UP mode in order to carry the heavy load. (Blue wire)

The DOWN mode is just a straight thru connection from the PTT switch clear thru to the electric motor (Green wire).

You have either a faulty PTT switch, a broken Green Wire, or a failed electric motor.

Check the electric motor by disconnecting it via it's electrical connector, then running jumper wires from the battery straight to it... negative jumper to black wire at the electric motor, another jumper wire from battery positive to the electric motor's green wire, then the blue wire. (Green = Down... Blue = Up).

Let us know what you find.

Thanks joereeves... I had a bad Power Trim Solenoid. $27.00 fix and back on the water. Thanks again for the help and knowledge.
