Prop advice needed !

Hi Folks !
I've got a 40 hp 2 stroke yamaha which has a damaged prop !
The prop is a 11 3/4 x 12-G can i replace it with a 11 3/4 x 10-G ????
What difference will this make ??

Not an expert at this but have changed props to improve performance by trialling various.
You need to know the "operating range" of the motor, say 5000 - 5500 revs (or what the manufacturer states) and ensure boat will still reach this range and not exceed it. Exceeding means under propped (too fine) and not attaining bottom of range at wot means too coarse. Is quite important!
