Just got a backup Hurth z25M for the installed HBW250 in my boat. I want to do a quick inspection of the used unit when it arrives to confirm that it works as stated. My thought is to split the case, measure the thrust washings (anyone know the acceptable thickness of each thrust washer?) and give a quick look over of the rest of the internals.
What else could I measure or test without pulling apart all of the gearing? Anyway to determine if the bearings are in good order?
