Trim motor problem

My trim motor is acting weird.
When up or down, particularly up, when I push the trim or trailer button it wont move unless I tap the top of the trim motor in the boat.

Looking online I believe that my problem could be the solenoid, but wanted some expert opinions from here.

So tapping it makes it work and it seems to be fine unless I let it sit for a period of time, then it doesnt work.

So any suggestions?
 
that's a symptom of carbon and grime filling the slits between the commutator bars. Every brush type DC motor eventually succumbs to it as carbon rubs off the brushes. The only fix is to disassemble the motor and clean the copper with emery cloth and a seal pick will work to lightly scrape the carbon from between the bars.
It usually gets worse fairly quickly once it starts to act up.
