Difficulty removing lower unit.

Hi I am a new member and could do with some advice.I have a mercury 60 hp 2 stroke circa 1988.i am having trouble removing the lower unit with the 5 fastening undone it separates by about 5 mm but is still solidly held, am I missing something?
 
After you make sure you have not missed an attaching bolt. Drive some wedges in between the case and the exhaust housing, Hook up a water supply and fire off the engine, it will come off if you pry on it while running.


Take the prop off while doing this.
 
On my 1987 25HP the shift rod is connected with a pin up inside the cowling. Just double check to make sure that isn't the case with yours as well.
