5.8ford volvo pinta,will not rev over 3000 rpm

engine ran fine,could get 4500-5000rpm,now for some reason it will only go to 3000 rpm,what could cause this. Thank you

I would probably look to first eliminate the throttle cable and linkage at the motor and shifter. Make sure your shift range will get you to WOT. Then go from there.
