CDI Operation Question

If the stator supplies the voltage required to fire the coils why is 12vdc required at the power pack? It comes from the M terminal on the key switch. Maybe I missed something along the way.

Yes you missed something along the way.---------The 2 M terminals " open " for the motor to run.----The 2 M terminals are together to stop the motor.--Easy to test this with an ohmeter.------12 volts is never applied to a powerpack !!
 
I think the wiring mess we have on the motor confused us. Going to rewire it using the proper color codes.
It's an Evinrude 90HP 1994 E90TLERC.
