I replaced the throttle and shift cables on my boat. I then replaced the water pump impeller. now it seems my shift cable is too short to keep the gear case in neutral. I have adjusted it to its maximum length but it still needs to push the shift rod backward about half an inch to keep from being hung between reverse and neutral. anyone have any ideas what I have done wrong? there is plenty of slack in the cables so I'm pretty sure its not just because the cables are too short as I have previously been told. thanks for any input
