3.3 hp Insert removal

I have replaced the impeller on my mercury 3.3 two stroke. I need to replace the insert that goes into the housing unit. Any ideas on how to remove the metal insert from the housing so a new one can be installed? Do I need to replace both the housing and insert? Thanks.
