1993 3.0 omc fires but won't run

My boat just up and quit on the lake and hasn't started since. It is getting fuel and fire( i am basing this off of it starts and runs for a fraction of a second then quits). It is like there is a kill switch keeping it from running. Any help would be much appreciated.........
 
there should be a kill switch usually located not to far from your key switch. Guessing here that your kill switch will have a cap that depresses the kill switch button, if that's the case remove cap and manually dress that button with your finger as far as you can and hold it while trying to start engine. if engine now starts and runs you have found your problem. Them style of kill switches gum up and can give you fits
