1971 60hp johnson outboard no power to green wire for neutral

Hey
New to boating. I have a 1971 johnson 60 hp outboard does not go into neutral no power to green wire were do I start trouble shooting, is there a neutral safety switch it was turning over with the key but then it stopped working the key switch. Actually the key broke off it is really hard to turn key.
 
There are lot's of threads on the Electric shifts with detailed explanations. Do a search in the Forum and you will be able to compile a wealth of information. Just click on "Search Forums".

So, does it go into reverse? BOTH the green and blue wires have to have power to do that, so if reverse works you know both wires are good. That pretty much leaves the shift switch in the control. Sit down, they are uber expensive, if you can even find one . By all means, test yours before buying one
 
Thank you so much for all your help found a broken wire in switch now going through whole harness and connectors thanks again oh yeh turn key she goes into neutral well i have power to the green
