Please help me to set this engine up for a test run. I found the engine sitting in a warehouse, it has the transmission on the opposite side of the flywheel, and the distributor on the flywheel side. From the casting number 3756519 I know is a 1962 283 GM block, something like a Chris Craft, but the mess with front and back, flywheel and distributor position is confusing me so much. Wich is the # 1 cylinder? Thank you!!!

This is true even if the water pump is the same side with the transmission?
Owen simply mounted the engine rear to front? And the #1 cylinder remain on the water pump side?

Another way to tell is, look at the Crank pulley (vibration damper), or wherever the timing marks are, when it's on TDC, that cylinder should be at TDC. also, the distributor should be in the back of the engine.
