Hi,
I have just purchased a 1985 Larson boat with an 85hp Force engine. Boat started when I was shown before sale. Now that I have it home, cranks and will not fire. Someone told me that if I charged the battary with the cables hooked up I may have burned out the ignition modules (it has 2). How do I determine if the modules are bad without a lot of diagnoistic tools or engine repair experience?

You following the right starting procedures?
Kill switch?
Squeeze the ball till firm?
Then fast throttle? Advance the throttle.
Then as you turn the key are you pushing the key in to choke the motor?

To test packs. Unscrew 1 plug.
Keep it in the end of the plug wire.
Hold it(end of the plug) against the block and see if it sparks.

Try this if you get no spark?
Outboard ignition . com or CDI Ignition both have test procedures.
The basic tests use a volt meter.
