Is power steering cooler essential?

My boat was last winterized improperly and the power steering fluid cooler has cracked. It's very difficult to get parts in the UK. Is this part truely essential or can I do away with it and just bypass it?

Bill is correct. As long as you keep the Power Assist steering system, the fluid cooler is necessary.

Be sure to pressure test both sides of it after the TIG weld repair.

Any radiator shop can solder it back up and test it.

How would one test one side and not the other Rick? lol
