If up for a small project, and if you have the space in fron of the engine...... you may want to consider retro-fitting a Johnson F5B-9 or F6B-9 crankshaft pump.

No drive belt nor pulleys to contend with.
No more defered impeller maintenance due to impeller access.

4 cover screws to remove.... and the impeller becomes easily accessible.

This is a GM SBC w/ the F6B-9....... this deminstrates how the pump is positioned.

With no belt tension side-load pulling at the shaft bearings..... these go for years without issues.

The F5B-9 goes on sale occasionally for around $150.
The F6B-9 is a tad more expensive.

I am interested in installing an F6B-9 on my 273. It has no raw water source as of yet. What adapter kits are available? I am in the process of making my own, but I don't want to unnecessarily reinvent the wheel.

Great idea but won't you need to machine an adapter of some kind so the pump will bolt up to the crankshaft damper?

I seem to remember a guy on here a couple of years ago who designed such an adapter for the Chrysler 360. I'll see if I can dig up his name. I traded a couple of emails with him and he said that he'd have some adapters made when he returned from Florida.
