I just picked up a 1990 Johnson 30 hp to play around with. It is in pretty decent physical condition. The compression is 115 on both cylinders and it has excellent spark. I just rebuilt the carburetor and changed the impeller and lower unit oil. I started it for the first time tonight after completing all this work and it fired right up on the 2nd pull (manual start model) but would not run at all at idle. It would either run at 1000 rpms or higher or not at all, it was like it just shut off if i tried to idle it down at all. I got looking at the throttle linkage and tiller handle cable and it looks all wrong. I tried making sense out of it and I think I am close, but I am wondering if anybody knows how to properly adjust the tiller handle linkage or if you have that portion of a manual that tells how to do it. I have the manual for it somewhere, but can't seem to find it when i need it.
