quick silver remote

I got a 1982'ish quick silver control to.a 40hp, there isa button at the bottom of the shifter, says throttle only, guess it doesn't work cause can't get throttle forward without imaging the gear. Need a diagram of it, any help.would be great
 
Are you saying that when you squeeze the handle and push the button inward at the same time that the handle won't push forward and provide throttle in neutral?
 
When I push the button and throttle forward or backward still goes in gear can't get throttle in neutral. Button doesn't feel right either
 
The button must not be releasing the latch. take the button off by squeezing the split stem under

it ...use two puddy knives...then push the center w/a screwdriver to see it it will release.
