I have a 1989 mercruiser (GM) 3.0 that I am replacing the harmonic balancer on. The old one separated and the pulley came off. Got the old one off pretty easy with a standard H/B puller set but there is no bolt on the end of the crankshaft to pull the new one back on. Other than a big hammer and a block of wood to pound it back on, is there another way to press it on without damaging the thrust bearing? Thought about heating the new balancer a little to expand it (heat expands metal?) and trying a plastic deadblow hammer to put it on, or possibly rigging some kind of press bolted to the front motor mounts?
Any suggestions? Thanks
