Coupling Mercruiser engine with a new transmission

Hi all, I need to repower an old boat I am restoring, and I hav a 1990 Mercruiser 5.7 engine I would like to put in the boat that originally was an inline drive: may I easily couple this engine with a new Velvet drive 71C? What I need to put the two together? From what I need to start for choosing the transmission ratio? Thanks!!!

you need the inboard bell housing using the rear entry starter. a standard rotation motor uses the reversed rotation starter. Also need to change the flywheel to inboard style and use the clutch disc to couple it to a motor.

It depends, it could be 1:1, known as direct drive, or commonly 2:1 reduction ratio. Tell us your prop size, & WOT rpm, speed, & rotation direction, with the previous engine. Velvet drive 71 C sounds like a clockwise rotation?
