exhaust manifold temp

have just recoed my 5ltr small block mercruiser, fitted stainless manifolds, closed cooling system, engine runs well temp 160 at idle for over 1 hour, the starboard exhaust is warm to touch, port side very hot, plenty of water flow from heat exchanger, but hoses to manifolds feels cooler on starboard side, this is with garden hose fitted to leg, will it run cooler in the water or am i worring about nothing.

You didn't specify if this is a full vs partial fresh water cooling system. In a full system, the manifolds are included in the fresh water circuit. In a partial system, the manifolds are raw water cooled. In partial systems, the heat exchanger is smaller than in a full system. In both systems, the elbows are raw water cooled and are the exit point for hot raw water into the exhaust stream.

He states a CLOSED COOLING
That would have a heat exchanger.

need more info

such as serial number and year of boat/motor as long as the motor is original. Pics would be good to see the stainless steel manifold set up.

Then the cooling system can be looked at in a manual

eng was originaly raw water cooled, now fitted with partial system of another 5ltr mercruiser, fitted HY TECK stainless manifold [one piece] raw water goes from exchanger to bottom of manifold and out the top with exhaust, also running EVANS WATERLESS COOLANT,in system, marvelous stuff look up there web site, pics of exchanger and manifolds included.
