merc 3.7 470....tune up

Hi Everyone,

I just recently purchased a 1985 cobia 195 with a merc 3.7 470 with a heat exchanger, the drive is a alpha 1....does anyone have a idea on what temp this boat should run at? i have been researching on the motor as advised by a few and i seen that if the motor runs to hot, i have a huge risk of warping the block.....any info would be greatly appresheated...

define hot, being FWC it should be around 165-175 .Hotter than that and you risk engine damage.From manual 8:
points. .022
dwell 28-32
WOT 4200-4600
Therm 160Deg

Thanks Doc....i wasn't sure what was hot myself....this is my first boat with this system...so my guess is 176 is hot! thanks
