Perkins 6-354 oil pan

I am trying to install a 6-354 and the major problem is getting it low enough to line up the shaft. I spoke to someone who had done the same installation, and he told me he used a sheet-metal oil pan that was much shallower than the massive aluminum casting on my engine. Unfortunately he didn't know the original application of the pan he used. Does anyone know what alternative oil pans are or were available for this engine? Even if you can't tell me where to get it, a picture would be helpful. I can probably build it myself, but I would like to know how small a sump Perkins felt was the minimum.

A dry-sump system might allow a small enough sump. Was a dry-sump system ever used on vertical engines, and if so, what did it look like? My manual only mentions it for the horizontal version.
