Mercruiser Starter Problem?

I just bought a 1996 maxum bowrider off a guy and when I bought it the engine cranked right up no problem and it sounded good. I go to take it out today and It cranks the forst 2 attempts at starting it and now it just clicks once everytime I turn the key. This is my first boat so I just needed some input. It has a new battery but I was wondering if its just as simple as putting a new starter on?? It is a 3.0 mercruiser.
 
Clean all your electrical connections! Battery, soleniod, starter. It would probably be the solenoid before the starter. My experience anyway.
 
And don't forget to clean the ground connections. They are just as important as the hot side. :)
