Hi all, I am thing of repowering with a new MD50BS TLDI and there does not seem to be much info on these motors so I would like some feed back from current or previous owners. It will be going on a Quintrex 4.55m (15 foot ) aluminium runabout which weighs 300 kg. Boat is rated to 60 hp. A big thank for any correspondence.

The TLDI motors are based on the tried-and-true 2-stroke block designs. They are light, efficient, and durable. They require DFI-rated oil. They are a mature design, with few problems. Tohatsu also has available for 2014 4-stroke models in that hp category. It all depends on whether your preference is for the light weight (205 pounds) of the TLDI, or the "sewing machine" smoothness of the 4-stroke. The 4-stroke is available in a 60 hp version, which would be better than a 50 hp model for hole-shot on your boat. All of these models are covered by the 5-year warranty in North America.
