1983 Johnson 25hp, stuck drive shaft...

Giday guys,

I've just recently bought the above engine and was shocked to work out after the transaction that there was a faulty water pump. After weeks of tinkering on the engine (due to corrosion and old age) I've finally been able to separate the segment which I believe houses the water pump and impeller...
however after prying it open my next issue is that I cannot get the drive shaft free of its housing... Any ideas or help would be great, if you need I can upload photos....?

I replaced the water pump on mine a couple of years ago. There was a shift linkage about half way up that had to be separated before the lower unit would come down. It's under a cover plate that has two screws holding it in place. Best I recall there was only one set screw that had to be backed out.
I realize I'm replying to an old post but it could help someone else with similar problems.
