I am in the process of buying a new set of engines for my boat, she is a 17ft Catamaran which only weighs around 450kg (without engines) I have spoken to our local dealers here and they pushing to sell the Bigfoot engines as there is limited stock of the standard 60Hp.

The bigfoot is marketed as been more for heavier boats and has more torque than the standard gearbox, my boat should be just fine running the standard 60 but have to wonder if bigger is better? I am no mechanic so wondering about the advantages of running bigger gearboxes on my boat. I have been told that they might be a bit heavier on fuel due to the extra drag of the bigger gearbox.

My questions are,

will the engine not be working less as she will be running at a lower RPM with the bigger gearbox?
Or will the engine be working harder to power this bigger gearbox?
Might the engines be lighter on petrol as they will not have to run as hard?

Any input os opinions would really be appreciated!
