Replacing the compression relief valves and O rings on my RDS23. My Clymer manual doesn't specify what the gap is between the valves and the adjustable tappets. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Just make it 0.010"------Not as important as say a car engine.----These only operate when you pull the manual starter.

I agree it isn't vitally important, but manual sez .018" - .025". You don't want any chance of the arms holding the valves down while running.

Thanks for the info. I was running around .020" but there was so much slop in the linkage that it would vary all the time. Found a NOS cylinder top plate, new bushings and used a 7 mm flat washer above the cotter pin to take out all the vertical movement. Put new valves in as well since the old ones were mushroomed on top of the stems. Thanks for all of the info during my little maintenance journey.
