1987 Mercury Classic 50 (45hp) compatibility

Hi,

Would anyone be able to tell me if a 1987 Mercury Classic 50 (45hp) is compatible with other outboards bigger or smaller?

If you mean power wise, it's a strong runner and not as heavy as other makes of that power range. They are also very long lived.

one of the most reliable motors ever built...a little heavy on gas usage.....i ran a couple of them over a long span of time...on my boats if i run a 17 inch prop then the gas usage was better...had to go to a 15 if i was going to be loaded or they were slow coming out of the hole...back then the price of gas was not the issue...it was the range as i was running 6 gallon tanks.....went to heavier boats or i would be running one today...really good engine..
