TAMD60 Exhaust riser

My 1985 TAMD60 Exhaust Riser has developed a hole next to the flange, so smoke is coming into the engine compartment. When I started work on it, I found it had separated from the flange and was only held in place by the exhaust hose! I always thought the flange and the riser were one piece but find in the part breakdown they are two pieces and very expensive. Looking at them I can't see how they would attach together - no evidence of threads.

I hope to be able to weld them together.

Any ideas?

I realize this is an old post. I had the same problem with both my TAMD60 on my boat.
IT is a thread that hold the riser to the flange, a poor design! I re-designed the whole thing and fixed it
for good for under $200 per engine.
If you're still interested I can send you some sketches.
