were all chris craft 427 side oilers?

My brother owns a Classic Car sales company.
About eight months ago, I saw what I think was my first 427 side oiler engine in a $120K "numbers matching/numbers correct" 1965 Ford Galaxy 500 that he was selling on consignment. The owner and car restoration person was there, and we spoke about this particular engine.
Apparently the 427 side oilers were rare in the autos..... so they may have also been very rare in a Marine applications.

I've never been into the Fords per 'se.... but this was a beautiful car.

No.

Only a few Chris-Craft engines are side-oilers, and this is due to the fact that the engine order was filled that way and those blocks became boat motors.
Power and performance is the same as a center-oiler, and most Chris-Craft 427 engines are center-oilers.

One must (must) use the proper side-oiler cam bearing when rebuilding a side-oiler, becuse if they use a regular center-oiler bearing the motor will burn up due to incorrect oil flow.
Both will fit the side-oiler engine so beware.

regards,

DS
