If I swap one out only one of my twin application 1997 BF90A with a 2007 BF90DKXRTA, do i only need to swap out the wire harness? Can I keep the key switch and gauges?

In assume the hours on a 2007 are read from the ECU so one can't forge the amount of hours?

Key switch, gauges, and wiring harness will all work with the newer motor. Since the newer motor is fuel injected, you will not have to choke the engine or advance the throttle to start the engine and .... there are two additional warning lights that would be good to have....check engine and charge lights (PGM-FI). You can add it with a small wiring harness and light panel. The 9 wire PGM-fiharness (various lengths on this Honda web site page http://marine.honda.com/outboards/accessories/harnesses[h=2]PGM-FI 9 Wire Panel Harnesses[/h]
[h=5]9 Wire Panel Indicator Harness with 6 pin engine connector[/h]BF40-250Engine end has a 6 pin connector. Helm end has both 6 & 3 pin connector for panel indicator lights on key switch panel and/or PGM-FI indicator light display for digital gauges. Includes sealing caps provided for unused connector. Connects to digital gauge harness, 32540-ZY3-800AH and 32540-ZY3-800AHR when using a 17 wire main harness.

  • 32185-ZY6-020AH 20 feet long.
  • 32185-ZY6-025AH 25 feet long.

[h=5]9 Wire Panel Indicator Harness Extension[/h]BF40D-250A[h=5]32185-ZY6-004AH[/h]4 foot extension harness to extend the 6 pin and 3 pin connectors at the helm end of the following harnesses:
- 20 wire main engine harness
- 23 wire universal main engine harness
- 9 wire panel indicator harness

and

PGM-FI Panel

BF40D-BF25032340-ZW7-000AH

Should be used if not using key switch panel 36452-ZW7-100AH/AHR or 36652-ZW7-100AH/AHR. Includes 3 foot harness. 1 panel per engine.

and yes the ECM stores the number of hours.

Hope that helps.

Mike

Ha, this helps a lot and you may have just cost me $! Was not expecting this answer at all,
but I like it!

So all the work will be hanging and connecting the motor, "plug and play you say"....Cool !

I fully understand the idiot light add on, great option.

Thanks Mike!
