Serial D167071 - 150HP V6 Carb Engine

Hi Guys, my serial is D167071. Its a 150HP V6 Carb Engine

See below:

My well versed boat friend says though Mercury lists this as a 2.0 block, its actually a 2.5L block. Can anyone confirm this? I want to upgrade this motor to a 2.5L 200HP engine.

Yeah i saw that one, but didn't they use the same blocks for all these engines from 135 to 200 back in those days?
I figured you knew what you had already or at least what the serial number would come up as when made new at the factory since your friend knew his Mercury stuff.

As you can see the parts catalog shows different engine sizes/models. MERCURY/MARINER (135/150/175/200/XR6/MAGNUM III)

Yours started life as an 150 HP 2.0, but at anytime could have been converted over to a bigger 2.5l 175+ HP in and around 1992.

Whats casting # on cylinder head as that will tell you if its a 2 or 2.5

I'm not sure if i got the right one but i looked on the starboard side, at the bottom of the cylinder head and i found 884-9765-C1

Let me know if this is the right format. If not, let me know where to look.

Thanks.

Any confirmation on which one this is guys?

Anyone? I have got the serial number of a 2.5L blackmax for a friend of mine and compared the parts to mine. His serial number is d067850

I found that the con rods have the exact same part numbers, same for the exhaust tube. Does that mean i can change to 200HP pistons and i will become a 200HP motor?

I just need confirmation that my block is a 2.5L with this casting number. Please help.
