VRO Gasket

I have a '91 60hp (E60TLEIB) that I removed the float/suction line from the oil tank (for cleaning purposes) The gasket is in good shape however it twenty plus years old. Is the gasket critical to the point it needs to new? Is the tank somehow pressuried? Did I make a mistake (kinda late to be asking these questions but what the hey) Thanks
 
The oil tank is not pressurized. The VRO pump draws oil and the oil tank is vented in the cap. The gasket has to prevent spray water from getting into the oil.
