Honda BF8 shift shaft motor end

Hello, need a little help re/installing the shift shaft on this 8hp honda, BACL-1001299, was told it is a 1991 model. It has the shift shaft that has the motor end part that unscrews to slide it down and remove the lower unit, what is the easiest way to get it back together and screwed back on, run the shift shaft up and then try to reach it and screw the part on? thanks for any info.
 
What I do is I use my electric impact and take the 2 mount screws out with 12 mm socket.-----Then remove those 4 bolts for the exhaust housing and lower unit as one assembly.-----That allows the shift rod adapter to be unscrewed ( 14 turns or so ) and then seperate the lower unit and exhaust housing.----Takes minutes and no frustration.
