Water in the gearcase (Tohatsu 30)

Both of my 2002 Tohatsu 30's had water in the gearcases when I drained the oil. Any suggestions where the leak would most likely be? Jeff
 
Install a new seal kit in each. Fishing line can damage the prop seal, but the o-rings of the shift rod are often overlooked.
 
Thanks for your response. I bought a seal kit (they only had one in stock)and in the process of removeing the original prop shaft seal I think it may have been installed backwards. Shouldn't the open end of the seal face inward, toward the oil? Jeff
 
Thanks again,Paul. I got another seal kit and installed both,including the shift rod seals, so I should be all set. Jeff
