BF130 revs too high

Hi all, first time post. Glad to be part of the group. My 1999 Honda BF130 usually has a WOT tach reading of approx 6,000, but last time out noticed it reading 7,000. I'm concerned it's past red line. Any thoughts on what could cause this after 13+ years of no issues ? Thanks, in advance......

Bad tachometer? Try another tach, if you can find one.

Faulty ECM? Hopefully...not.

Spun hub on the prop?...however, I would think that you would have hit the rev limiter if it actually rev'd to 7000.

Did the boat run faster than it did at 6000? If so, then it was really running at 7000 and the hub is not spun.

Thanks for the reply Mike. Boat did not go faster, in fact was slower to plane. I'll check the hub first. Tach at idle seemed ok (around 500). Is there some sort of self-check I can do on the ECM ?

Mike - thought the rev limiter's top rpm was around 6500 rpm. Is that not correct? Agree it's most likely a spun prop.

No self check on the ECM. Most of the trouble shooting charts end with...."substitute a known good ECM".

If you are not sure about the hub, stick a spare prop on it.
