low oil light

What are some causes for the low oil light to stay on all the time?I have changed the oil and filter and filled with 2 1/2qts of oil.It doesn't make any difference if the wire is connected or disconnected on the oil sender switch,and doesn't matter if it is grounded or not.Any and all help will be appreciated.It is a 50 hp 4 stroke evinrude 2001 model,E50PL4SI.
 
system check gauge?Is that the gauge on the dash that beeps and lights up and turns off one at a time?What would be the procedure for checking it?All the lights turn off and the low oil light comes back on and doesn't turn off when the engine is cranked.
 
Yes. Go to a dlr and see if he has a spare one and just plug it in and see what happens. If your mtr is OMC around the '96-'98 era they were known to have this problem.
