I just bought a 79 140 horse Evinrude. The throttle cable seemed shot and the control box was questionable, so I replaced both. The problem is that when I am in neutral, the cable is holding the engine almost wide open. There seems to be to much distance between the threads/adjuster, and the black piece on the end of the cable. The new cable looks exactly the same as the cable I took off. It seems as though i have the wrong cable. Any ideas as to what might be the problem?
